OpenAI introduces Sora, its generative AI for videos. And the result is breathtaking!
It’s an exceptional innovation that OpenAI is treating us to. Because after its generative text AI, ChatGPT, and its generative image AI, DALL-E, here comes Sora, the Californian company’s video tool!
Even though the progress of generative AIs was very impressive last year, it still seemed that there was a difficult hurdle to overcome in the field: video. Indeed, current artificial intelligence didn’t seem capable of producing a correct result in this format, as shown by the very famous video of Will Smith eating spaghetti. And yet, OpenAI surprises us once again today by introducing Sora!
Videos of 60 seconds can be created.
“Sky is the limit!” Rarely has this phrase applied so well as to OpenAI. The company led by Sam Altman has indeed just presented a major achievement with its AI, Sora, capable of generating… videos.Top of Form
An AI known as “text-to-video,” where, as with ChatGPT, you simply input the description of what is desired to obtain a result. And as you can see below, the result is more than convincing!
According to OpenAI, the tool remains limited to short productions for the moment. “Sora can create videos with a maximum duration of 60 seconds featuring highly detailed scenes, complex camera movements, and multiple characters with vibrant emotions,” it says in the presentation post on X.
OpenAI is currently in the midst of intensive testing of Sora.
But even in its current state, the performance is at a very high level. With this time limit, it seems that it’s already possible to create trailer-type videos using Sora. This is something OpenAI has eagerly done, with a result that you can see below once again.
Obviously, the realism of these productions raises with even more sharpness the question that has been on our minds for a year now since the emergence of AI: Doesn’t Sora pose a risk? Because in the wrong hands, it could become very easy for anyone to produce fake videos trying to pass as real, with the potentially devastating consequences that we can imagine, especially at the political level.
